We believe that tithing is a biblical principle and the first step in trusting God with our finances. When we tithe, we give 10% of our income back to God through the local church.
Lets explain the tithe.
The word “tithe” means 10% and it also means “to be rich” coming from the Hebrew word “aśar”.
The principle of tithing is the acknowledgement that everything rightly belongs to God, including our property and that we are only God’s managers. The tithe is a token brought to honor the Lord and recognize Him as owner of all.
Deuteronomy 14:23 The Living Bible
“The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God in first place in your life.”
Tithing is honoring the Lord with the first 10% of my income through my local church which is the storehouse I get fed the Word of God.
It’s the only time in the Bible that God tells us to put him to the test. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” Malachi 3:10
The tithe is a divine invitation to test God’s promises to provide.
We should not be legalistic about the tithe. Our tithing and our giving above the tithe is always done out of love, honor and recognition that God is our source and our provider. It’s also a sign that the spirit of mammon does not have our heart but God does because “where my treasure is there my heart will be also.”
